MASON WENT A SURVEYIN

MASON WENT A SURVEYIN

Ol Charley Mason went a surveyin,ย โ€™stead of brick layin, like his daddy did,

Yea, at the mansion, with Ruler in hand,
He stepped a foot where his daddys’d never been.

Eyes wide open, wider than that expanse,
On the witch he was lookin, perhaps by chance,

For all that he saw, endless abyss,
Charley wanted more than his hand would fit..

But He couldnโ€™t play the flute, no he couldnโ€™t even dance,
To the witch he said while a sweatin bricks:

I ain’t layin no bricks, no bricks, no bricks

When aponderin fruitless, reflection gavee,
Charley became a measurin mane!

Joyed as could be, he declared it aloud:
‘Oh what manโ€™s feetโ€™ve ever been where I prowl?’

Twas right there & then, a Dixon chimed in,
Twas there pair a singin, sticks in hand,

Twas wands a swayin, as fast as the wind,
The swans a flyin, life to the land..

Oh could it be true, why a miracle too?
Mason was a square dancin, a hired a flute’s tune!

Could hardly contain, ‘gain not knowin what to do,
If he wan’t sleepin, all his dreams came true
